Handcrafted CSS

handcrafted

Dan Cederholm & Ethan Marcotte are teaming up for the sequel to Bulletproof web design: Handcrafted CSS. I highly respect both of these guys, and really can’t wait to see what they put together.

From the intro:

Seemingly non-obvious details can often separate good web design from great web design. You might not appreciate the quality of a well-designed website until you start using it, looking under the hood, putting it through tests, etc.

This is fantastic advice that I don’t think any web designers follow often enough. While Graphic Designers generally design for a static medium, working on the web is such a fluid set of scenarios and interactions that sometimes the little details get overlooked after the design has been approved and the code has been written.

So head over to Amazon and pre order it now!

Reinforcements!

Mr. Downham

When you’re a small design business, sometimes it’s difficult to do it all on your own. However, when you’re a small design business with really talented folks around you, it gets a bit less tricky. With that said, I’d like to announce the first of a few ‘partnerships’ that will help us deliver even higher quality work.

Matt Downham is a guy I met at school about 5 years ago now, and is easily one of the most talented designers I know. He’s got a background in all sorts of media, from video to print to web and everything in between. Matt will be handling some of the design projects around here, mainly depending on the size and scope of the projects. As we grow and take on larger clients, it’s important to have a handful of folks to lean on to ensure we put out the best quality product. Matt is definitely one of those people.

You can check out his website here, or stay tuned for some blog posts detailing projects we are both working on.

Welcome to 3.0

Hey there. Welcome to version 3.0 of SquareOne’s website. I can’t believe this site has only been up a year, and I’m on the 3rd design of it. I feel like this one has more room to grow, so hopefully I’m not making any drastic changes any time soon.

So, after a month or so of trying to come up with a redesign that works as a personal site and a professional one, I think that I’ve come to a good compromise. The result of SquareOneWeb.com version 3.0! I’ll be integrating this site design into my DanielAndrews.com design as well very soon, so worlds will collide.

Anyway, I wanted something with a bit more color than the older design, which was very tan and green and not much else. I hope that this design will stand out a bit more without being overwhelming to visitors, content wise. I’ve gone to great length to revise and remove redundancies from the site, and I’m by no means done. A lot of the services pages are being removed and rewritten, and the client survey is being shortened by about 200%. Once 3.0 is fully live, this site will be a lean, mean web designing marketing machine. I wanted to launch last week, but Wordpress blew up on me a few days ago, so that put me behind schedule. So here we are. Forgive the not-so-hot blog setup.

Hope you like the redesign.
